Foreclosure Mitigation: PRIs as a Rapid Response Tool

Tuesday, May 11, 10:00 - 11:30 am

Foreclosures, like the subprime lending that precipitated them, have been heavily concentrated in the same vulnerable neighborhoods targeted by community development efforts over the past twenty years. The resulting vacant and abandoned properties threaten the value of neighboring homes, invite crime, and discourage future investment. Yet cities across the US are using the foreclosure crisis as an opportunity to re-imagine their urban landscapes. This panel will discuss different models for addressing foreclosures and the role of foreclosure mitigation in creating new urban landscapes. Panelists will share the challenges and lessons learned, and discuss the role and structure of PRIs in their work.
