Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is: Local Food Finance

Tuesday, May 11, 10:00 - 11:30 am

Interest in local food, sustainable agriculture and access to healthy food has grown in recent years, as has the need for patient and sustainable capital to finance efforts at every stage of the food chain. There is huge potential and great interest in PRIs and other creative capital among farmers, advocates, chefs, policy makers, funders and investors – but ‘food finance’ is still an unknown for most foundations. This session features a conversation among thought leaders from different aspects of the food financing continuum, including a foundation perspective on investing in the food system. Panelists and workshop attendees will also explore how foundations can invest today in this crucially important area.

Moderator: Karen Lehman, Illinois Fresh Taste Initiative

Speakers: Dr. Keecha Harris, KHA Inc Donald Hinkle-Brown, The Reinvestment Fund Jeff Rosen, Solidago Foundation
